Thank you to Mick for choosing the date for this years Birthday Meet he must have had advance notification that the sun was going to shine on us and bring out 102 Units to our 42nd Birthday Meet.
Friday started with units rolling in thick and fast poor Malcolm & Michael are 3 inches shorter, but managed as usual to pitch all the vans with ample of room to enjoy the weekend. Units came as far as Bristol to help us celebrate.
It wasn’t long before we were all settled in and ready for action.
The Marquee was up Balloons & Banners at the ready.
Party Games started for the Squirrels, followed by a night of dancing to the Brilliant Maria Lee followed by DJ Dan to finish the night off.
Well done to all those who won the booze raffles, some shared it some didn’t…It made a pleasant change to sit out in the open air and enjoy good company.
Saturday saw more sunshine bringing the little Squirrels out to play they had lots of fun with Darren at the sports day then out came the water slides/paddling pools... THEN came the big water fight which saved a lot of us from having a shower, we were all very cool after !!!!
Malcolm showed the young ones how to play volleyball
Watch and learn!!!!
Saturday evening was fantastic New Gold Rocked the Marquee it was party time and we danced and sang the night away.
Well done to all those who made fab party hats.
The party Buffet was a great success thanks to Jo & Co not a crumb was wasted.
The BEST was yet to come once the party had come to an end out came the sleeping bags/ air beds / roll mats etc & even Paddington bear pillow cases by Lloyd Perry who was 21 that day?? 65 people of all ages came together to sleep under the stars to help raise money for the WHDA Charity The County Air Ambulance…. Even Sue Cooper found a nice rich man to sleep with whilst her poor hubby patrolled on security.... Lucky Lady! Sandwiches Crisps & Biscuits followed by Tea /Coffee/Hot Chocolate kept the mood going nicely through the night.
Andy Knight had a few problems getting out of his sleeping bag to go to the toilet during the night MUST be his age!!!! (Not that someone had taped him down and drawn pictures all over his face..erm wonder who did that????)
The only complaint we had was that Karen & Ju snored to load sorry about that….
All those who were brave and slept under the stars were rewarded with a free breakfast thanks to Jo.
Thanks to Chris, Gary, Tony & Phil for staying awake all night to watch over us and keep us safe.
We will update you shortly on how much was raised from this event we hope you had lots of fun raising money for a worthy charity.
If you have any other good fund raising ideas email the web or contact any committee member.
Mr & Mrs Bird came out to help us celebrate this weekend and was presented with a certificate, as it was there 50th year of camping we hope you enjoyed your stay with the WHDA and wish you many more years of camping with us.
A big thank you to Emma for baking our Large Birthday Cake, and thank you to everyone for helping and making this meet a great success and one to remember.
